Pinoy $1 Street Food Eatery In LA Featured On Hit Netflix Show “Street Food: USA”
A Filipino eatery based in Los Angeles, USA, was featured on the Netflix show “Street Food: USA.”
Elvira Chan, the Filipino owner of Dollar Hits is truly grateful for the attention their eatery is gaining. Her eatery is one of the few places Filipinos visit in LA when looking for Pinoy comfort food. She explained that her eatery was named Dollar Hits because all her 33 kinds of street food on a stick only cost one dollar.
According to Elvira, the secret to her eatery’s success is her Kapampangan roots. In a report on ABS-CBN, she said, “I’m a good cook because I came from Pampanga. Pampanga is the culinary capital of the Philippines.”
She recalled her humble beginnings and shared that they started as a food truck business and then moved to a market space. Elvira is truly proud that she can make his kababayans happy through Pinoy foods.
“Me and my three sisters rented a truck. One day, good. Second day, good. Third day is very good. There were plenty of people. Then after that, we sisters bought this market space for Dollar Hits. And the Filipino people, they are happy,” she said.
Many good things await Elvira and her Dollar Hits. They now have 2 locations, Temple, LA & West Covina, and a 3rd location is opening this August 2022 in Woodside, New York. Filipino streetfoods in the “Big Apple” seems like a booming business. Another Pinoy street food stall, Boy Isaw, found huge success selling isaw in New York.
Elvira’s inspiring business story was even featured in the Los Angeles Times. In the report, she shared how she hopes she could buy the whole strip mall where Dollar Hits is currently renting. This way, she could help save other Filipino-owned businesses in the area. She’s truly grateful for all her success and hopes she can share it with others too.
“I am overwhelmed, and I am blessed and grateful,” Elvira said.
The Netflix show, “Streetfoods: USA” is the third installment of the series after the Asia and Latin American versions. It features some of the most loved foods on American streets and shares the inspiring stories of the owners, stores, and their soul foods.
