Drive smoothly

Driving with the inner workings of your car in mind can make a big difference to its condition. The more aggressive you are with the steering wheel, pedals and gearbox, the higher your repair bills are likely to be. 

So, try to drive as smoothly as possible to keep your car’s components in good shape. By doing so, you’ll be able to stay in control of your finances by preventing any unnecessary trips to the mechanic and slicing pounds off your fuel bills to boot. It’s a no-brainer.

Maintain the battery

Over time, your car’s battery will degrade. This is especially true if you don’t use it for long periods – bad news for anyone trying to avoid paying record UK petrol prices.

Of course, it’s highly inconvenient to have to jump-start your car. But just as importantly, it’s also bad for the car battery and may even damage delicate electronic parts such as the engine management system.

You can keep your battery healthy by driving at least once a week, even twice a week during winter. If for any reason you can’t keep this up, you can use a trickle charger or a conditioner to keep your battery topped up.

Just like you, your car needs plenty of fluids to function properly. You can expect your car to break down much faster than usual if you don’t replenish them. Here’s a checklist you can follow every two weeks:
