Former OFWs Find Success As Entrepreneurs In Chicken Biryani In A Bucket Business
A couple from Laguna shared their inspiring story of picking themselves up even after several failed businesses.
Jesus Jose and Charlene Pampang of Bombay Bucket are former Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Dubai who went back home due to the pandemic. The couple didn’t lose their jobs, but they were already thinking ahead of what their future held. So, they decided to take the risk and venture into business. After several attempts, they found success in their chicken biryani in a bucket business.
“Madami kang naisip na mga businesses, siguro mga lima, pero itong Bombay Bucket lang ang nagtuloy-tuloy,” Charlene shared with Pera Paraan.
Jesus recalled that they started with a capital of P5,000. Their chicken biryani became such a hit that they were able to get their capital back in only 2 weeks. Now, they are earning over 6-digit profits monthly. The couple sells their chicken biryani in a bucket good for 2 people for P270.
According to the couple, their unique packaging of putting the biryani in a bucket was probably one of the reasons for their success. It’s creative and innovative and made people curious about their product.
The couple’s unique packaging is another proof of how important it is to be innovative and creative in business. For more inspiration, you can also read the business story of gourmet isaw and bopis in a jar, or the artsy pastillas business that’s earning P300,000 per week.
How To Make Bombay Bucket’s Chicken Biryani
For the rice, prepare the following ingredients: basmati rice, star anise, cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon stick. For the chicken, prepare the chicken, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric, lemon, coriander powder, cumin, chili, fried onion, yogurt, tomatoes, and onions.
Start by boiling water in a pot, adding all the spices, and simmering for 5 minutes. Add in the basmati rice and cook.
While the biryani rice is cooking, start preparing the chicken. In a bowl, mix all the spices and ingredients, including the yogurt and lemon, with the chicken. In a pan, saute the onion and tomatoes before adding in the marinated chicken. Once cooked, start assembling the chicken with the rice in a pot.
In a pot, arrange the chicken and biryani rice layer by layer and cook them on a low fire for 10 minutes. Once done, arrange it on a plate or container. Serve while hot.
